Psychoeducational evaluations identify a full range of capabilities, learning strengths, and challenges, and can clarify a variety of diagnoses for all ages.

Psychoeducational evaluations identify a full range of capabilities, learning strengths, and challenges, and can clarify a variety of diagnoses for all ages. The evaluation is conducted to determine levels of intellectual functioning and academic skill levels at the time of assessment. The results provide thorough insights into a student’s current performance and future potential. This type of evaluation assessed all the areas of cognitive functioning (e.g., visual processing, short-term working memory, long-term retrieval, fluid reasoning, comprehension knowledge, auditory processing, processing speed) and academic achievement.  It is used to determine specific learning disabilities, including dyslexia and dysgraphia.

At Stone Creek, our goal is always to go beyond simply testing to a comprehensive understanding of the results followed by support from our clinical team as well as the provision of appropriate resources.

Benefits of Psychoeducational Evaluation

  • Diagnosing and determining eligibility for 504 or special education services.
  • In-depth, contextual understanding of a student’s cognitive functioning.
  • Determine appropriate accommodations and interventions
  • Provide evidence to show how ADHD impacts a student’s performance in the school setting
  • Provide parents information to help make educational placement decisions for their student that struggles
  • Re-evaluation to measure progress
  • Support documentation for application to a specialized private school
  • Provide documentation for accommodations on standardized testing (e.g. ACT, SAT, LSAT, GRE….)
  • Document educational need for college-age students requiring accommodations
  • Support during the IEP process, determining IEP vs. 504 Accommodations, guidance with private or public school placement and course selection

The Process

  1. Intake questionnaire: The individual responsible for initiating testing will be given a brief questionnaire to be completed prior to scheduling.
  2. Intake Interview: 45-minute virtual meeting to discuss the evaluation process, review the intake questionnaire, and any initial questions or concerns.
  3. Testing: Typically, there are two sessions of face-to-face testing with the client. Sessions typically range from 2 – 3 hours. (The quantity and duration of sessions varies by the student’s age)
  4. Scoring, Interpretation, Records Review & Report Writing: After testing is complete, this process is completed within 2-3 weeks.
  5. Final Session: A 60-minute feedback session will be scheduled via zoom to review the final report. The comprehensive report is provided during this session. The student is expected to attend the final session.
