SKILLED, CARING PROFESSIONALS

National Get Outdoors Week

Studies have shown that spending time in nature can significantly improve mental health. In light of National Get Outdoors Week, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the beautiful natural resources around us. Whether it's a hike in the mountains, a walk in the park, or a picnic by the lake, getting outside and connecting with nature can positively impact our well-being. So, let's celebrate this week by taking a break from our screens and spending some time in the great outdoors!

There are a million things you can do outdoors!  Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure or a peaceful stroll through nature, there’s something for everyone. Here are some of the best activities you can do outside:

1. Fishing: Fishing is more than just a relaxing pastime, it can also provide significant mental health benefits. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors and engaging in physical activity can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Fishing also promotes mindfulness and can help individuals disconnect from the stress of daily life. Additionally, the social aspect of fishing, whether it’s with friends or in a group setting, can provide a sense of community and support. So, grab your tackle box and hit the water to improve your mental health and overall well-being.

2. Loosen Up and Lighten Up Day falls during the Get Outdoors Week this year.  Did you know that being silly can actually be good for your mental health? Studies have shown that laughter and humor can reduce stress, improve mood, and even boost the immune system. But what about being silly specifically? Well, it turns out that letting loose and acting a little goofy can also have some surprising benefits. For one, it can help you let go of self-consciousness and connect more easily with others. It can also help you break out of negative thought patterns and shift your perspective. So go ahead, let your silly side shine! Your mental health will thank you.

3. Running relays with your loved ones is not only a great way to bond and have fun, but it’s also a fantastic workout.

4. Walking your dog is not only a great way to keep your furry friend happy and healthy, but it’s also an excellent way to improve your own mental health. Whether you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or simply in need of a mood boost, taking your dog for a walk can work wonders. Studies have shown that walking with your dog can help reduce stress and anxiety levels, boost your mood, and even improve your physical health. So, the next time you’re feeling down, grab a leash and head outside with your pup – you’ll both feel better for it!

5. Blowing bubbles is not just a fun activity for children, it can also have numerous benefits for your mental health. Research has shown that the act of blowing bubbles can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The repetitive motion of blowing and watching the bubbles float away can be calming and meditative, allowing your mind to relax and unwind. Additionally, the visual stimulation of watching the bubbles can help improve focus and attention, making it a great activity for those with ADHD or other attention disorders. The act of blowing bubbles can also be a form of self-expression and creativity, allowing you to tap into your inner childlike wonder and imagination. So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or need a mental break, grab some bubble solution and a wand and start blowing!
